Checking in - it's been a while...

Well, it's been an interesting 4 months.

What's happened - lots. It's like a good, bad and ugly thing again.

My half brother died in June. My dad's health went downhill in the summer and he died in September. That's the bad. Oh, and the tree "trimmer" killed my 100 year old tree.

The good is that Stacey finished her treatments and was given a big "thumb's up". We're cruising in December to celebrate. I also had a canoing adventure with my brother, Lane, Joel and Chris. As well, I had a nice little visit to Las Vegas in the summer.

The ugly is that I have been left as Head of English again. Also, I'm on a diet which is sucktastic (a favourite new word of mine).

Besides that, everything else is pretty much the same.

Well, I'm thinking about updating this more often. I tried twitter and wasn't a fan. I only know a few people who really use it - all in their 2o's. All my younger and older friends stick to facebook and websites they like.

Tomorrow is Stacey's birthday. I can talk about it because I doubt she ever looks at my blog (I'll get into viewing members soon). My gorgeous gal will be a year older, but still looks like a twenty year old. Lucky me!

She needs a watch so I got her a few and she needs tires (and I want her to be safe) so we'll get her some of those, too. I think I'll cook for her a bit tomorrow, though I did so tonight for her and her dad, which was fun (it was his birthday) Tonight: Steak, baked potat, mushrooms, cheesecake. Tomorrow: Homemade burgers (her favourite food) and maybe pancakes if I wake up in time.

Summer is coming. People always say, "You must be coasting, the end is soon." Actually, this is the busiest time of the year. I don't have time to enjoy the end. The government set up high school so that the biggest assignments and exams are all in the last 2 weeks. End result: no students study for their exams (like we used to) because they are too busy finishing major assignments. This is the same government that sets an English test to test whether a student can write a test or not, instead of whether they are literate or not. Teaching students how to write a test is now part of my job. Sad. But don't get me started...

But start I must as I'm spending part of the first weeks of "vacation" at curriculum writing workshops. At least we get paid a bit to do this.

But summer will be busy. Stace and I will go up north for a week in July. In August I spend most of a week in Vegas and then most of a week canoe tripping. I was supposed to take the summer off to write my planned novel, but real life experiences are not to be discounted in the life of an artist!

That's today's update. Maybe I'll do so more often in the future. This is where YOU come in. If you read this, make a COMMENT. Even if you say "bite me" at least I'll know someone read this. And I'll laugh.

Spring is in the Hair

2010 Update
Why so long? I dunno. Most of my rants are ending up on Facebook (hit me there). I tried out Twitter for about a week and was both bored and annoyed - all my twenty-something friends use it more than Facebook, but teens and 30's plus seem to like the FB more.

I Digress.
Well, we'll try to sum it all up:
THE GOOD
- I'm the new Head of Languages at my high school
- I went to the DR with my gal for some fun
- I am still gigging lots with Kevin Coates and Gavin Knight...much fun!
- I published a memoir piece in a national glossy
- the cat, house, car, and world keep going fine
- my girlfriend/partner is bald, like that sexy Vulcan from Star Trek!!!

THE BAD
- I'm the New Head of Languages
- I went to the DR...I don't recommend it, but still fun
- My Dad's health is not great
- My half-brother's health is not great
- my girlfriend/partner is bald...but I think it's sexy!

THE UGLY
- Bets are down on which of us will get arrested in Vegas in August
- Bets are down on who will be eaten by a bear in August on the Canoe TRIP
- work, home, stress, me in the mirror...
So, for all you fans who were asking for an update, there ya go (both of you).
:-)
