Rant # 37: Commercials

While all commercials are inherently annoying, especially new trends like out of tune whistling and singing, here are some recent most idiotic:

Honda:  "The most advanced Honda Civic yet."
     a) why would they make one LESS advanced than the previous one?
     b) if they did, would they tell us?

Fisher-Price: (sung out of tune)  "You are exactly one of a kind…"
     a) redundant
     b) is that as opposed to people who are just kinda one of a kind?  Do they know something about clones we don't?
"We were made for each other for always."
     a) creepy…the kid is going to live with their mother forever?  (Oedipus might approve, kinda.  Well, not really.)  Good luck in the teen years….

2 Broke Girls Ad.:  "If I get into this dumpster I will literally be white trash."
     a) actually, white trash is a metaphor, so no

Westjet: "owner" makes up a bouquet for a distraught bride
                      "I borrowed them"
     a) are you giving them back?  No.  You STOLE them.  Nothing like starting your married life clutching stolen property

Hertzig Eyeball Lazering:  Cherry Tabb, co-president
(to paraphrase)  "So there's this mother at the beach and she gets sand in her contact lenses and can't see her children! "
     a) okay, what's up with your name?
     b) blatant scaremongering…really, Cherry
     c) motherhood issue appeal…pretty cheap, Cherry
     d) one would assume the kids can handle the water (for a minute or three) or they aren't allowed in the water, if you are parenting correctly and there are no sharks
     e) I don't have kids and I don't have contacts, but if I get sand in my eyes I can't see either.  Duh.

Fallsview Casino:  (couple breaking up song) "You were two but now you're one."
     a) I believe in couples/marriage the common metaphor is that the two become one, so it should really go "You were one and now you're two."   (That's why the cake is in two pieces.)

Delta Chelsea Show, Toronto

While I still have a dislike for Toronto for so many reasons…as ranted on previously (don't get me started)…this gig was wonderful as so many great musicians came out for a great cause and showcased some of the great talent in the city.

Here are a few who I was lucky enough to share the stage with:
Michael Smith, Toney Wild T Springer, Kim DoolittleCathy Young, Danny Marks, Robin Banks. Mike McDonaldJimm Chefero, Uli Bohnet, Pat Rush, Russel Forfar, and so many more.

Friday show...

…it has somehow become a tribute/memorial/wake for the woman who died after her shift at the Delta Chelsea Toronto.  Guess we'll see how that plays out...

Sept 2012

Well, here's the last 9 months in a blast…

- Probably should have taken more time off but went back to work in February
- Moved schools (well, the whole school did) June - well, still moving shite
- Got back into gigging and some studio stuff into July, cottaging, too
- Helped my mom move out of the old homestead
- Threw my back out in July canoing
- Just got better and was hit by a truck in August…van totalled…still in pain
- Started playing with Beggar's Banquet (Rolling Stones tribute), as well as my usual stuff
- Went back to a chaotic work environment

I'm not sure how to start this post.

After over 3 years of treatment, 3 months in Toronto for a transplant and superhuman efforts, my fiance, partner, better half, and true love, Stacey, died.

It's been a week since that happened and I know that life will continue, somehow, but I've never been so profoundly sad and alone before.

It's an alone that can't be filled with friends or family, no matter how valiant their loving efforts.

The Isle of Nod is not cloud ridden, it is a cloud...for now.
